Local SEO for Multi-Location Clinics

Quick answer

Multi-location clinics win local search by treating every branch as its own local business. Each staffed branch needs its own Google Business Profile with the real address, its own tracked phone number, its own reviews and posts, and a genuinely different location page on the website. Keep the brand name identical everywhere, track rankings per branch across its own catchment, and tag every enquiry by branch in one CRM.

Opening a second branch feels like doubling your reach online. Often it does the opposite.

I have seen clinics with three branches where all three Google profiles share one phone number, the website has one "Locations" page with three addresses in a list, and every review asks patients to rate "the clinic". Google cannot tell the branches apart. Patients cannot either. And the newest branch, the one that needs patients most, is invisible.

Local search ranks on relevance, distance and prominence. With several branches, you have to earn all three separately for each one.

Does each clinic branch need its own Google Business Profile?

Yes, if it is a real, staffed location where patients are seen during stated hours. Each branch gets its own profile with its exact address and map pin, its own hours, its own photos and its own primary category based on what that branch actually leads with.

Keep the business name consistent across branches. Use your real brand name only. Do not add keywords or area names to the name, like "Best Skin Clinic Indiranagar". Google does not allow it and can suspend the profile.

Do not create profiles for places where you do not actually see patients, such as an address you only use for a camp once a month. That is the kind of shortcut that gets profiles removed.

How should a multi-location clinic set up each branch?

Use the same checklist for every branch, so nothing gets missed.

For each branch Why it matters
Its own profile, exact pin, real hours Distance and relevance are judged per location
Its own tracked phone number So you know which branch the patient called
Its own location page on your website, linked from its profile Gives Google and patients branch-specific detail
Photos of that branch, its team and its doctors Patients want to see where they are going
Reviews requested for that branch Prominence is built branch by branch
One educational post a week Fresh activity on every profile, not just the flagship
Same name, address and number on every directory Consistency feeds prominence
Its own ranking check across its catchment Each branch serves different neighbourhoods

What makes a location page genuinely useful?

This is where most chains fail. They copy one page three times and change the area name. It helps nobody, patients or Google.

A real location page answers the questions of a patient going to that specific branch:

  1. The exact address, a map and the nearest landmarks.
  2. How to get there from the surrounding areas, including metro stations or bus stops where relevant.
  3. Parking, lift access and wheelchair access.
  4. Which doctors consult there, and on which days.
  5. Which treatments are done at that branch, and which need a visit to another one.
  6. Branch-specific timings and the branch's own phone and WhatsApp.
  7. Photos of that branch, inside and out.
  8. Reviews from patients of that branch, shared with permission.

If two branches truly offer the same thing, the doctors, days, directions and photos will still be different. Write those differences down. That is what makes each page worth ranking.

How do you stop branches competing with each other?

Give each branch a clear territory. List the neighbourhoods each branch should win, based on where its patients actually come from (your CRM's address data will show you). Then focus each branch's reviews, posts and location content on its own territory.

Check rankings across the whole city, neighbourhood by neighbourhood, for each branch. A branch can rank first on its own street and not exist two kilometres away. When you see a weak area, decide which branch should own it and build that branch's presence there.

Link the branches together on the website so patients can easily find the nearest one, but keep each branch's page focused on its own patients.

Your condition pages can stay central. One strong page for "knee replacement" serves the whole city, with a short block near the top that lists every branch, the doctors at each and a button to book at the nearest one. That way you do not end up with three thin versions of the same treatment page fighting each other.

How do you track enquiries by branch?

Every enquiry, from every profile, page and campaign, lands in one CRM tagged with two things: its source and its branch. Then you can answer the questions that matter:

  • Which branch gets the most calls from its profile?
  • Which branch converts enquiries into bookings best?
  • Is the new branch growing, or just taking patients from the old one?

Here is an example. Say you have three branches in one city. Branch A gets 120 profile calls a month, Branch B gets 80 and the new Branch C gets 15. Without branch tracking, you only see "215 calls" and think things are fine. With it, you see Branch C needs reviews, photos, a proper location page and posts, starting this week.

If you run several branches, a central team handling all calls is often sensible, but the CRM should still record which branch each patient is booked into. Our CRM and automation work sets this up so the branch tag is never optional.

Who should own local SEO across branches?

One person centrally owns the system: the profiles, the website, the directory listings and the monthly ranking report. Each branch manager owns the weekly basics for their branch: asking every eligible patient for a review, sending fresh photos, and making sure the branch phone is answered. Front desks at every branch reply to reviews within a day, without revealing anything medical.

If you are a hospital group or a multispeciality chain, this gets bigger, but the principle is the same. Look at our work with hospitals and multispeciality groups for how departments fit in.

The short version

  • Every real, staffed branch needs its own profile, number, page, photos, reviews and posts.
  • Never copy location pages and swap the area name; write what is genuinely different about each branch.
  • Give each branch a territory and check its rankings across that territory every month.
  • Tag every enquiry by source and branch in one CRM, or you will never know which branch is struggling.
  • Weekly consistency at every branch beats a perfect flagship and neglected outlets. Book a free growth call if you want a branch-by-branch audit.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use one phone number for all my clinic branches on Google?

You can, but you lose the ability to see which branch each call came from, and patients may reach the wrong branch. Give each branch's profile its own tracked number that your clinic controls, with your main number as an additional one, and log every call by branch in your CRM.

How do I make location pages for my clinic without duplicate content?

Write what is truly different about each branch: directions and landmarks, parking, which doctors consult there on which days, which treatments happen there, branch timings, photos and reviews from that branch. If you cannot find anything different to say about a branch, the page will not help patients or rank well.

Will opening a new clinic branch hurt my existing Google ranking?

It should not if each branch has its own profile and territory. Problems come from copied pages, mixed-up numbers and reviews that do not say which branch. Track rankings for each branch across the neighbourhoods it serves, and watch your CRM to see whether the new branch adds patients or just moves them.

Should a doctor who works at two of my branches have one Google profile or two?

Practitioner profiles are a grey area, so keep it simple and honest. In a multi-doctor clinic, each doctor can have a profile with just their name. Make sure their page on your website lists every branch and day they consult, so patients searching their name find the right place and time.
