Google Ads work for Chandigarh doctors when each treatment has its own campaign, the tricity and regional towns are targeted separately so you can see what each area costs, and negatives block searches for PGI appointments, government hospitals, jobs and visa medicals. Send every ad to a matching condition page with the full sector address, and judge budgets by cost per treated patient.
A Mohali clinic asked me why their Google Ads were busy and their OPD was not. We opened the search terms report. "PGI Chandigarh online appointment." "GMCH 32 OPD timing." "Medical test for Canada visa Chandigarh." "Physiotherapist job Mohali." Hundreds of clicks, paid for every single time, from people who were never going to become patients.
In Chandigarh, more than most cities, the wrong searches look a lot like the right ones. The account has to be built to tell them apart.
How should a Chandigarh clinic structure its account?
One campaign for every treatment. Knee replacement is one campaign. Cataract surgery is another. Dental implants is a third. Each gets its own budget so you always know what each treatment costs.
Inside each campaign, split keywords by intent: the treatment, the cost, the specialist near me, and the condition. Many tricity patients search in English, so the core keywords will be English. But watch your search terms for Hindi and Punjabi words typed in English letters, especially from patients outside the city, and add the ones that bring real patients.
Start with exact and phrase match. Broad match without data and without negatives will find every visa medical and every job seeker in the region.
How should you target the tricity and the region?
This is where Chandigarh accounts are different. Your patients come from three kinds of places, and they behave differently:
- The tricity: Chandigarh, Mohali, Panchkula and nearby places like Zirakpur and Kharar.
- Regional towns: places in Punjab, Haryana and Himachal that already send you patients. Check your own records first.
- Searches from abroad that mention Chandigarh, from NRI families planning treatment for a parent.
Split them, so each has its own budget and its own numbers. A patient driving in from Ludhiana or Solan may convert very differently from one in Sector 15. You will only know if you can see them separately.
Then match the schedule to the phones. Regional families often call early before they set off. Searches from abroad may come at night. If nobody can pick up, schedule call ads only for staffed hours, and make sure the WhatsApp button triggers an instant reply.
Which negative keywords does a Chandigarh account need?
Build the list before launch. Here is a starting checklist, then grow it every week.
- Government hospitals: PGI, PGIMER, GMCH, sector 32, GMSH, sector 16, civil hospital, government, OPD card, online appointment.
- Visa and immigration medicals: visa medical, Canada medical, panel physician, immigration, IELTS. In a region where many families apply to go abroad, these searches are common and almost never your patient.
- Jobs and courses: job, vacancy, salary, course, internship, nursing college.
- Free: free, camp, charity.
- Home remedies and information: home remedy, desi ilaj, images, PDF, meaning.
- Medicines: drug names and "medicine for", since prescription drugs cannot be promoted in India anyway.
- Cities you do not serve, like Delhi or Jaipur, unless you want those patients.
Then block a half-hour every week for the search terms report. Every bad search becomes a negative. Every good one becomes a keyword. This one habit saves more money than anything else.
What should the landing page say?
Every ad goes to the condition page that matches it, never the homepage. For Chandigarh, the page needs a few things beyond the medical basics:
- The full address, written the way people here read it: SCO or booth number, sector, city.
- Directions from Mohali, Panchkula and the main highways into the city, and where to park.
- Whether tests, scans and consultation can happen on the same day for families driving in.
- How a visit works for an NRI patient with a short stay, and whether follow-ups by video are possible where clinically suitable.
- How pricing works, with an honest range, and the payment options, including payment links for family members abroad.
- Click-to-call and WhatsApp buttons that work perfectly on a phone.
If many of your patients come from Punjab towns or Himachal, consider a short Hindi or Punjabi section on each key page, explaining the visit in the words an older parent would use. The son may read the English page in Mohali. The father who has to agree to surgery may want it explained in his own language.
Our websites and search team builds these pages with their own tracking, so each one shows which enquiries it brought.
How do you judge whether the budget is working?
By cost per treated patient, region by region.
Here is an example. Say a Chandigarh eye clinic spends ₹90,000 a month on cataract surgery ads. The tricity campaign spends ₹50,000 and brings 8 patients who start treatment, so ₹6,250 each. The regional campaign spends ₹40,000 and brings 4, so ₹10,000 each. Both may be worth it, depending on what a patient is worth to you. But if the regional campaign only brought 1 patient, that is ₹40,000 for one patient, and the money should move.
To see this, track calls, forms and WhatsApp clicks as conversions, then record which ones booked and started treatment. Send that back to Google once you have enough data. Keep automated bidding off until the account has a steady monthly flow of tracked conversions.
Run a small campaign on your own clinic name and your own name. In a city full of well-known specialists, you do not want a competitor above you when a referred patient searches for you. And follow the rules: no guaranteed results, no prescription drugs, no unproven treatments, and the page must match the ad. Check current policies and NMC guidance before each new campaign.

Frequently asked questions
How much should a Chandigarh clinic spend on Google Ads?
Start from what a patient is worth. If a patient brings ₹1 lakh in the first year, aim for a cost per new patient around 10 to 20% of that, so ₹10,000 to ₹20,000. Set a testing budget you can hold for three months, split it by treatment and region, then move money to whatever brings treated patients at the lowest cost.
Why do my clinic ads get clicks from people looking for PGI?
Because searches for PGI, GMCH and other government hospitals look similar to searches for specialists, and broad keywords catch them. Add those hospital names, OPD card, online appointment and similar terms as negative keywords before launch, keep matching tight, and review the search terms report every week to block anything new.
Can I target NRI patients with Google Ads from Chandigarh?
You can run a small, separate campaign for searches from abroad that mention Chandigarh and your treatment, so its cost is visible on its own. Send it to a page that explains how a visit works on a short trip home, how video follow-ups work where suitable, and how families can pay from abroad.
Should I target the whole of Punjab with my clinic ads?
Only the towns that already send you patients, and in their own campaign so you can see what they cost. Check your records first. Patients who drive in from far away may convert differently, so judge each region by cost per treated patient, and make sure your phones are answered when those families call.
